How it works

Your brain has enough to do.

Book recommendations, grocery items, business ideas, to-do lists. They pile up fast. Droplet gives each one a place to go, in three simple steps.

  1. Have a thought

An idea on your walk, a reminder between errands. Just say it out loud.

  2. Give it a tap

Droplet saves your words, including up to 60 seconds before you tap. Tap again when you’re done.

  3. Come back to it

Get reminders and organized notes on your phone or computer, or listen back to the raw audio. It’s there when you need it.

Why Droplet

Relax & remember.

Never miss the moment you meant to record.

Pre-roll is a short, rolling audio buffer. Tap Droplet and your clip includes up to 60 seconds from before the tap. When you realize something was worth keeping, you don’t have to say it all again.

Your clip includes both sides of the tap.

Leave your phone at home.

Reach for the button, say your piece, and get back to life. Works without internet, too.

Your thoughts are there when you need them.

Get organized notes and reminders on your phone or computer, with the original audio there to listen back to.

No subscriptions.

Recording, transcription, and audio export come with Droplet.

Yours to tinker with.

Open source firmware and a reprogrammable device. Use it as it comes, or make it your own.

Privacy

Privacy at the hardware level.

Your thoughts, your life, all yours. We can't snoop and we don't want to.

  • No click, no saved recording

A hardware-enforced pre-roll buffer holds up to 60 seconds on Droplet. Only a button press saves a clip; unsaved audio is overwritten on the device.

  • Listen only when you want

Turn pre-roll off to stop background listening. Droplet will record only when you press the button.

  • No cloud unless you choose it

Your recordings and notes stay on your devices. Transcription runs locally. Your data only goes to the cloud if you opt in.

  • Protected if you lose it

Recordings are encrypted at rest on Droplet and protected by your password, so someone who finds it can’t simply open your recordings.

Questions

Wondering about something?

Is it always listening?

Yes, if you have pre-roll enabled. You can turn off pre-roll to disable background listening. However, background listening is a technical requirement for pre-roll because Droplet cannot predict the future!

Can I adjust pre-roll?

Yes. Pre-roll is a setting you control. You can set it to 15 seconds, up to 60 seconds, or turn it off entirely to disable background listening and extend battery life.

Does Droplet require a subscription?

No. Storage, transcription, and intelligence happen entirely locally for free. Frontier intelligence might eventually be integrated as a subscription option, but there will always be a free tier with the latest local models.

Can I search my recordings?

Yes. The desktop and mobile apps transcribe recordings on your own machine, so you can search your words as text without sending audio anywhere.

How do I access my recordings?

They are stored in the Droplet and can be transferred to your devices via USB-C or Bluetooth LE. You may process the audio in-app or export the audio files directly.

What does the indicator light tell me?

Two things: whether Droplet is recording, and whether the battery is running low. Green for high battery, orange for low battery, blinking for recording, and not blinking when not recording.

Is it legal to record a conversation?

Whether you need legal consent depends on where you are and who you're with. Recording often requires consent in private communication, so be transparent with the people you are with.

What happens if I lose it?

Recordings on the device are encrypted at rest using a password of your choice, so a lost or stolen Droplet protects your data from theft.

Is the software open source?

The firmware and the desktop app will be open source, and the device is reprogrammable. We will publish the repositories as they are ready.
